Get Beautiful Long Hair with Hair Extensions
The name says it all. Extensions extend or add length to you hair. This styling technique refers to the addition of hair in order to add length or fullness.
Extensions can be composed of natural or synthetic hair. Good extensions should be virtually undetectable. That is, they should blend in with your natural hair in a seamless way. Nobody wants noticeable extensions that look clunky or fake. This makes matching the texture and color of your natural hair very important.
Methods
Depending on the method and type of extensions you get, they can last anywhere from four to six or eight weeks. Here are the common types of extensions we offer:
- Tape in. Individual strands of hair are attached to small sections of your natural hair, using a special kind of double sided tape.
- Clip ins. These extensions are removable and can last longer since you’re not wearing them everyday.
- Sew in. This is when the extensions are woven into your natural hair with thread after your hair has been braided.
- Fusion. This method uses heat to fuse the strands of hair directly onto your natural hair.
Are Extensions Right for You?
How do you decide if extensions are right for you? Perhaps you’re considering adding volume or desirable waves to your hair. That’s one use of extensions. There are a few things to consider before embarking on extensions.
- Natural hair. Depending on the kind you are looking to get, you might need to consider the type of hair you have. For example, clip ins might not work for really light hair that can’t handle the extra weight.
- Lifestyle. Keep in mind that using the tape extension might not be a good idea if for example you do a lot of swimming or sports that expose you regularly to the sun or damaging chemicals.
- Budget. Synthetic extensions might be more affordable, but they might tangle more easily or have a slightly less natural look. The better options will blend with your natural hair and maintain a similar texture.
- Timeframe. How long do you intend to wear extensions? Some extensions can last for four weeks, others six to eight.
Caring for Your Extensions
Just because this is not your natural hair does not mean you can neglect caring for it. Maintenance is just as important, otherwise they might become a nuisance and cause you to have a bad experience!
Practice the following proper hair care for extensions:
- Washing. Yes, you still need to wash your extensions. Do so gently, lathering the shampoo from the top down. Apply conditioner to avoid tangles.
- Brushing. You definitely want to brush your extensions. It’s important to be careful and brush properly. Be gentle or breakage may occur.
- Sleeping. To avoid overnight tangling, consider putting your hair in a light braid or low ponytail.
